Joyce and Jenn go way, way back…to their home town San Jose. Yet as Jenn veered down south to work with non profits and graphic design in SoCal, Joyce headed east to Grad School at Boston University.
So when it came to Joyce drumming up ideas for Jenn’s recent 30th birthday, she wanted to do something really special, especially since she couldn’t head west to celebrate. Thinking about honeymoon registries and a travel gift along those lines, Joyce ran a Google search and discovered myTab.co. Thinking this was a piece of cake yet wanting to test the waters for herself, she set up a personal account and did a trial run. Then Joyce created a gmail account so she could set up a profile for Jenn on myTab. Using myTab’s ‘email invite’ friends feature, Joyce blasted out a message to all of Jenn’s friends asking them to contribute towards a myTab travel fund birthday gift.
Expecting around $500 between 20/30 friends, Joyce did not anticipate near towards $1100 within 10 days gifted. It was also great that contributions came from friends who were scattered around the USA and they gifted quickly. Joyce really enjoyed the lack of pressure to be in charge since she didn’t need to lay out the funds and try recoup it back. It also, amusingly enough, created a platform that Jenn’s friends trusted, since some of them didn’t know Joyce. This was a really good point in creating Jenn’s myTab fund – honest and transparent gifting towards a specific goal, unlike a standard unemotional gift card being cashed out.
So on Jenn’s big day, Joyce just emailed her Jenn’s vanity url and sent her into a state of confusion with her gift. How much money?! After a few minutes the penny dropped and Joyce filled in the gaps, along with providing Jenn her user & password to myTab.
How did Jenn feel about this? She was floored with the amount of cash in her account and the really thoughtful personal messages that each gifter had written. She felt really loved and the value of having a ton of cash for travel was so much more original than a bunch of gifts or a bundle of random gift cards. She’s wanted to travel for a while and had Austin in mind but now she has over $1100 in her myTab fund, Santorini (Greece) is looking like a mighty good goal. Maybe Austin in October and then save a bit more cash on myTab towards a Santorini trip in the New Year?
Well Jenn, by the time you’ve taken your Austin trip, December will be just around the corner for, oh my, maybe holiday gifting so you have even more cash for Santorini. Just an idea!
We love this story – it’s our first myTab ‘surprise’ gift fund. Customers are using myTab for so many travels, whether it’s a personal savings goal or study abroad, business travels or celebration trips. But it’s cool that this surprise birthday account for Jenn topped the $1000 mark in under 10 days. Joyce, you’re a rock star. Jenn, you are SO adored by your friends & family. Now get packing!
